MATRYCS participated in the annual GlobalABC Assembly, 1-2 of June, 2023, Helsinki, Finland
MATRYCS project participated at the 2023 GLOBALABC ANNUAL ASSEMBLY which took place on 1-2 June in Helsinki, and was hosted by the Ministry of the Environment, Finland. The 2023 Assembly has been the best-attended GlobalABC Assembly yet with the highest number of GlobalABC members from the global south. Overall, about 85 participants took part in person and 90 participants online.
The GlobalABC Annual Assembly, a key moment for the buildings and construction community, provides a forum for all GlobalABC members to meet and discuss strategic direction and the way forward. This year, fruitful discussions were carried out around the Buildings Breakthrough, GlobalABC strategy & milestones over the coming years, Work Area activities, 2023/2024 work plan, Member marketplace & exchange, etc.
The GlobalABC has been growing since its foundation at COP21, now counting 280 members, including 38 countries, and is fully recognised as a critical and trusted platform for accelerating the global transformation of the buildings and construction sector. It is through its growing body and the generous contributions of its members that the GlobalABC is flourishing, making the voice of buildings and construction and the need for a sustainable transformation of the sector heard globally.
GlobalABC Assembly provided a unique opportunity to leverage MATRYCS knowledge in the context of presentations, dialogues and policy processes at the international level. Consortium partner ICLEI Europe, represented by Andreas Jaeger, spoke about the role of subnational data in developing integrated building-related policies in a multi-level governance context. Furthermore, Mr. Jaeger, who happens to be GlobalABC Steering Committee Member, also addressed 160 high-level representatives from international organisations, national governments and industry leaders in CORE SESSION II on the GlobalABC strategy on 1st of June and contributed to working sessions on building data and market transformations on 2nd of June
In the course of the event, bilateral conversations that featured MATRYCS outputs took place with senior Finnish, German and Swiss national government representatives, UNEP and UNOPS staff, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the International Energy Agency, the World Green Building Council and the private sector (such as Velux).
