MATRYCS project successfully participated at the 13th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications (IISA), which took place on July 18-20th in Corfu. More specifically MATRYCS and BD4NRG  successfully co-organised the 2nd Workshop for Big Data Analytics in the Energy, moderated by Zoi Mylona (HOLISTIC). Eleven papers were presented and discussed, during the Workshop.

IISA 2022 was organized by the University of Piraeus, Greece, the Ionian University, Greece and the Biological and Artificial Intelligence Foundation, USA. Technical sponsorship is also provided by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The constantly increasing momentum of big data, and the increasing adoption of leading-edge information and communication technologies, constitutes an unprecedented market opportunity for improving energy efficiency and management.

With the rising availability of large datasets, being generated in every layer of the value chain in buildings and energy systems, new applications and services that will maximise energy efficiency and performance will be deployed. Hence, new methodologies and techniques are needed to develop holistic applications that incorporate these emerging technologies and facilitate the transition into this digitised solutions environment.

In this context, this Special Session focused on highlighting applications and cases that make use of data and appropriate techniques for the decision support of energy stakeholders, such as network operators, utilities, energy suppliers, building managers, investors and financiers, local and regional authorities, policy makers towards energy efficiency goals using the latest technology.

On behalf of MATRYCS, Konstantinos Alexakis from NTUA presented an advanced visualisation engine with role-based access control for building energy visual analytics, Zoi Mylona from HOLISTIC talked about a web-based building Automation and control services and Panagiotis Kapsalis from NTUA presented a reasoning engine architecture for building energy metadata management.
